How can I take a cut of an orchid to grow another?

My mom and I each bought a new lavender and would like a cut hers to see if I can get it to grow. Is that possible with the orchids? I am a professional in the normal house plants, orchids but makes me nervous when it comes to their care.

Can not be propagated orchids from cuttings. Vandas can only realistically be reproduced in tissue culture or seeds … best left to professionals (unless, of course, wants to prove himself, but it takes absolutely sterile conditions).
