Perennial Seeds

Question and recommendation on perennial plant?
I will be a growing area in my garden that will cover pretty much my backyard and am trying to choose a good perennial growing there. It is partial sun (6 hours) and is in a temperate climate. I have an inclination towards a called Salvia "Ostfriesland" (East Frisia) and looks so beautiful. But I think it only blooms during the months of June and July, so would like to hear from experts in gardening, whether it a good idea to plant something in that area to find her in the courtyard of my extra flowering time. I can only think of throwing some zinnia seeds or planting between it with other perennial salvia. Is this appropriate? What other suggestions you might have? I also like the way Alysum or search Artemisia. Basically I want something blooming well and for life that is elegant. And is not horrible in the winter.
Since you love the salvia, which is its host plant. Go backward in time of flowering June and bulbs used to extend the flower in February or March. Maybe start with Tommie Crocus, then daffodils early as February Gold, then neglectum Muscari, then species such as tulip Tulipa clusiana are perennial (not regular tulips do not last many years after the first), then Alliums, Lilies and German. Choose a backup from July with strong summer bulbs such as yellow and Crocosmia surprise lilies (Lycoris squamigera), then, for the fall, Sternbergia, Saffron Crocus and Colchicum. You will have a rest period after these Crocus Tommie until late winter. Almost his only option for flowering, then, thoughts or violas, violas give a polished look better than thought. Plant them in October for most of the winter flowering in most places. Make sure the color you choose violas look good with the colors of the fall of the last pockets and the few early spring. Salvia plant your this spring, when available, but a bit far as it could be 20-24. "Decide what to light bulbs (these are only suggestions) from a catalog mail-order as mzbulb.com. Be sure to place the highest focus toward the rear when planting flowers together or consecutively. I Crocosmia must order the spring, but all others should be available as an order of fall. Plant fall-shorts with the flag immediately, and the other The floor for the violas in October. Cut the sage back to about 8 "wide" pad "(which must still be green) and fill the gaps between sage all the rest of the bulbs. The coming year should be glorious all year round. In some places, as violas are happy, they will replant and after a few years might not even need to replace them every October.

Seeds
$41.48 A remarkable collaboration of art and science celebrating the diversity of seeds. An orchid seed may be minuscule, so small and light that one gram contains more than 7.5 million seeds. In contrast, a single-seeded Seychelles seed is a nut weighing up to 20 pounds. All seeds have the same purpose -- to travel through time and space until they reach the right place at the right moment to create a new plant. This large-format book melds art and science in an authoritative examination of the design and function of seeds. Special light and scanning electron microscopy are used to obtain astonishing images of diverse seeds at various states of maturity. Pods, pouches, keys, nuts and other vehicles of dispersal are explained and illustrated. These time capsules of life for plants familiar and strange are presented in minute, beautiful detail. Microphotographs of the tiniest seeds and extraordinarily detailed cutaway images of larger seeds are combined with text that explains the formation and maturation of seeds and describes how they find their way to becoming a copy of the parent plant. Literary references to plant reproduction are featured as well, along with early botanical illustrations. Authoritative and richly illustrated, Seeds offers a fascinating and intimate look at the remarkable reproductive process of plants. (20071220) |

$12.99 2 LPs on 1 CD: THE SEEDS/A WEB OF SOUND.The Seeds: Sky Saxon (vocals, harmonica, bass); Jan Savage (guitar); Daryl Hooper (piano, organ); Rick Andridge (drums).Recorded in Hollywood, California. The Seeds' first two albums were also their best. THE SEEDS, featuring the stomping garage-punk classics "Pushin' Too Hard" and "Can't Seem To Make You Mine," arguably the hardest pre-heavy metal singles, is clearly a snot-nose classic. It's all in the song titles--"Evil Hoodoo," "No Escape," "Girl I Want You"--and the malevolence of the band's playing, especially that of organist Daryl Hooper and guitarist Jan Savage.A WEB OF SOUND is both a refinement and an abandonment of this approach. Some songs, especially "Mr. Farmer" and "Tripmaker," are as punky and psychedelic as anything on the debut. The last track, the 14-minute "Up In Her Room" is a total trip, like the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" reinterpreted by the free-jazz lunatics in the Red Crayola. Very weird, and if you're so inclined, very cool. Highly recommended. |

$11.99 Soul singer Martin Sexton releases his best work yet, the highly anticipated seventh record, Seeds. The troubadour says no thanks to several label offers and remains fiercely independent on his own. This album ranges like an American road-trip with stops in the regions of gospel, country and western, and rock, crafted with keen pop sensibility. Seeds oozes with that soul ... infused with spiritual hunger and child-like joy, all delivered with Sexton's fervent vocals. Sexton's raucus rendition of the late Billy Preston's Will It Go Round In Circles rocks with fuzz bass and Leslie vocal shimmer. Sexton along with Crit Harmon combine traditional rhythm sections with anything from minnow buckets and whiskey jugs to a guitar as drum kit to frame the tracks with unique, timeless production. |
