Fresh Viable

Plants are produced from old vegetable seeds to be as productive as those grown from seeds fresh?
I have many vegetable seeds of age who are still viable. My question is, plants that produce be as productive as those from fresh seeds? Does anyone know of any scientific experiments testing this question? Thanks for your help.
Yes, it will be just as good, but is less likely that they will germinate. The seed contains only genetic material containing energy reserves for the first root and leaves, after which the plant can produce is own energy and the seed is no longer necessary.

The Quest For Viable Peace
$17.98 ?The Quest for Viable Peace develops a simple and essential idea?that security is necessary for peace to become viable and that peace must pay for it to endure. The authors have much to share on how to plan intervention operations effectively; indeed, this volume will serve as a manual for establishing priorities in such operations. It should be read not only by planners and practitioners but also by U.S. policymakers who remain unconvinced that the effort is worthwhile and/or unaware of the steps to take in devising such operations.? ?Mark Baskin Senior Associate, Center for International Development, SUNY ?The Quest for Viable Peace is a first-rate contribution to the literature on this vitally important topic. Thoroughly researched, it deserves to be widely read, discussed, and, indeed, acted upon.? ?Mats Berdal Professor of Security and Development, Department of War Studies, King?s College London ?Taking international operations in Kosovo as its starting point, The Quest for Viable Peace broadens our understanding of the nationbuilding process as a whole and provides valuable guidelines for the conduct of future such missions. Campaign analyses of this sort, which look equally at the military and civil elements of an operation through its entire length, are essential building blocks in the development of a much-needed national and international doctrine for the conduct of such missions. Jock Covey, Mike Dziedzic, Len Hawley, and their coauthors move us closer to that goal, illuminating both the recent past and the near future as they do so.? ?James Dobbins Director of the International Security and Defense Policy Center, RAND Corporation ?Success in any stability operation depends on weaving the various civilian and military lines of effort together like strands of a rope. The campaign plan needs to ensure that all dimensions are brought into play: not only security but also the political, economic, and humanitarian aspects. Peace support operations are a test of patience, understanding, and endurance; perhaps the most difficult task is to establish the rule of law where none previously existed. The Quest for Viable Peace captures all of this vividly and comprehensively, not least in its use of the hard-won lessons acquired by the British Army in Northern Ireland. I commend it to all those, civilians and soldiers alike, who have an interest in peace support operations.? ?General Sir Michael Jackson Chief of the General Staff, British Army ?Presenting an excellent set of essential strategies for building durable peace by means of intervention, this volume is a prodigious, extremely high-quality, valuable work. It should occupy a prominent position in the literature of peace operations.? ?Robert B. Oakley U.S. Ambassador (Ret.) International intervention in failing states that threaten peace and security does not by itself make the world safer. Too often, when intervening forces are unable to c... |

Viable Populations for Conservation
$9.48 What is the minimum viable population (MVP) of a particular species? Besides the obvious implications for conservation, especially of endangered species, this question raises important issues in population biology. MVP obviously varies with demographic, life history and environmental factors, but also depends upon genetic load and genetic variability. This book addresses the most recent research in the rapidly developing integration of conservation biology with population biology. Chapters consider the roles of demographic and environmental variability; the effects of latitude, body size, patchiness and metapopulation structure; the implications of catastrophes; and the relevance of effective population size on inbreeding and natural selection. Other topics addressed include the role of decision theory in clarifying management alternatives for endangered species, and the opportunities for improved co-operation between agencies responsible for management. The book concludes with a forward-looking and plain-speaking summary on future research and its application for conservation practice. |

The Methadones - Not Economically Viable
$13.99 The Methadones: Pete Mittler (bass guitar); Daniel Schafer, Mike Byrne, Mike Soucy.Personnel: Daniel Schafer (vocals, guitar); Mike Byrne (guitar); Mike Soucy (drums); Amelia Fletcher (background vocals).Recording information: Sonic Iguana Studios (02/2004).Methadones leader Daniel Schafer has said that the band`s third album, Not Economically Viable, is a concept record loosely inspired by the 1993 Michael Douglas film Falling Down, about a murderous rampage by a laid-off defense systems administrator. (The title comes from one of the film`s key lines.) Lyrically, the album is akin to the great X albums deconstructing the Reagan-era American dream, from Los Angeles to More Fun in the New World, but Schafer is a more impressionistic writer than John Doe and Exene Cervenka, without their eye for detail. Musically, however, the album completes the Methadones` slow transition from garagey punks \u0005 la early Social Distortion into a more polished power pop outfit with a greater emphasis on vocals (Heavenly`s Amelia Fletcher sings her trademark helium-toned harmonies on several tracks) and catchy guitar hooks. Not at all coincidentally, the album ends with the aptly-titled "Straight Up Pop Song," a rueful blend of sardonic kiss-off lyrics and a droning guitar riff that sounds so much like a radio hit by the likes of Jimmy Eat World that it seems likely to be at least partially satiric in intent. ~ Stewart Mason Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. $9.99 A bright young African-American boy attempts to survive life in the city by acting as an errand boy for a drug dealer in this thoughtful, sharply plotted drama. Known as Fresh, the young man must use his delivery jobs to support himself and his troubled sister, receiving nothing from his distant, alcoholic father but the occasional chess lesson. His intelligence and quiet determination serve him well, as he wins the trust of his employer and settles into an unpleasant but survivable routine. Even this small comfort disappears, however, when Fresh accidentally witnesses the killing of a classmate and becomes a potential target himself. Forced into an impossible situation, he puts his experience and strategic ability to good use, developing a tricky plan to protect his own life and defeat the killers. First-time director Boaz Yakin emphasizes restraint and realism, presenting potentially sensationalistic material with a minimum of violence and flash. Instead, attention is placed on the strong, layered performances, particularly Sean Nelson as Fresh and Samuel L. Jackson as his embittered father. While some have questioned the film's treatment of inner city life, the film was generally acclaimed, thanks to its seriousness and complexity. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide |

Fresh!
$19.48 The need to describe the world around us is an impulse as old as the earliest cave-wall depictions of running horses and wounded bison. In this descriptive enterprise we have consistently found nature to be a valuable and inspiring companion, and over the centuries, as we moved beyond simple narrative to the complex, exhortative inventions of allegory, nature has reciprocally grown with us, giving us a crucial and familiar framework to help us to know our place in the universe. As a consequence of this evolution, the human imagination can claim innumerable--often epic--accounts built on the marriage of nature and allegory. Fresh! Contemporary Takes on Nature and Allegory features the works of fifteen artists from the United States, Europe, and Asia, encompassing pieces that vary tremendously in medium, technique, and scale--not to mention subject matter. It does not pretend to cover all of the allegorical tendencies in contemporary art, but nevertheless does represent several significant strains in the use of this mode in examining our relationship to nature. |

The narrative in your mind heats up when you discover her. ... a true southern California artist. His sexy imagery is casual without pretense.
